Q: Where is The Black Stallion located?

A:

The Black Stallion is located in the gated Currituck Club golf community in the Corolla Township section of Currituck County on The Outer Banks.  The Outer Banks are barrier islands separating the Atlantic Ocean from mainland North Carolina.  The Outer Banks are known around the world for their subtropical climate and wide expanse of open beachfront.

Q: Will I need 4x4 vehicle to get to The Black Stallion?

A:

No.  The Black Stallion is easily accessible off Route 12, and you will not require any special type of vehicle to get to it.

Q: How far is The Black Stallion from the beach?

A:

The Currituck Club exclusive southern beach access point is approximately 5 minutes from The Black Stallion by car, and 7 minutes from The Black Stallion by the Currituck Club community trolley.  The trolley service is provided at NO CHARGE to guests of The Black Stallion, and it runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, from 9:00am until the last trip from the beach at 6:30pm.  

The Currituck Club offers a complimentary valet service when you arrive at the beach.  Valet staff will greet the trolley, and then carry your equipment to the beach.  The Currituck Club also provides a snack bar, and a variety of beach equipment for guests to rent.

Q: How do I make a reservation? Is there a deposit requirement? When is the final payment required?

A:

We are accepting reservations for all available weeks through 2024. To make a reservation, please select the dates above. To confirm your reservation, you will need to sign the lease and pay 5% of the rental amount plus any applicable administrative fees. Within 30 days of signing the lease agreement, 45% of the rental amount is payable and the remaining balance is payable 90 days before your arrival date. 

Q: Do the minimum rental periods for The Black Stallion vary by month?

A:

Yes.  For the 2023 and 2024 rental seasons, The Black Stallion will accept reservations for:

• Minimum 7-night rental period (with Sunday check-in and check-out) for stays initiating in May, June, September, October, and November.

• Minimum 5-night rental period (with any day check-in and check-out) for stays initiating in April, July, and August. Check in any day you want except Saturdays.

• Minimum 4-night rental periods (with any day check-in and check-out) for stays initiating in December.

• Minimum 3-night rental (with any day check-in and check-out) for stays initiating in January, February, and March.

Q: What time is check-in and check-out? Is it possible to request late check-out?

A:

Check-out time: 10am

Check-in time: 4pm

Generally, we cannot offer late check-out.  Our team is very busy on turnover days cleaning and inspecting The Black Stallion to ensure that the property is ready for newly arriving guests.

Q: What is included in the rental rate?

A:

Your stay includes dispensers with conditioning shampoo and body wash in every shower, hand soap dispensers in every bathroom, beds made up with fresh linens, one set of bath towels per person based on the maximum occupancy of 55 people, starter rolls of paper towels at common area sinks, and one roll of toilet paper in every bathroom.

Guests at The Black Stallion also enjoy discounted rounds of golf at the award-winning Currituck Club;  access to all of The Currituck Club amenities, including free trolley service to the beach and beach valet service;  discounts at many local restaurants and shops;  and concierge service from The Black Stallion’s private Caretaker.

Q: If I rent The Black Stallion for my wedding, is there an event fee? Are there any other fees in addition to the rental rate?

A:

The Black Stallion does not charge an event fee, but a minimum $1,000,000 Event Liability Insurance policy is required (at an approximate cost of less than $200).  In addition, there are state and local taxes of approximately 12.8% of the rental rate.  And finally, there is a $3,000 security deposit that is fully refundable if no damage to The Black Stallion is detected when we inspect the property on your departure day. In lieu of the security deposit, you may at the time of booking opt to purchase a Vacation Rental Damage Protection plan designed to cover unintentional damages to the rental interior that occur during your stay for a fee of $99. Q: When is the pool open?

A:

The pool at The Black Stallion is open each year from April 1 - November 1.  There is a fee to have the pool heated (for months other than July and August, when the pool heater is not available for use because the outside temperature is warm enough to keep the pool heated to a comfortable level on its own). Here is the pool heating fee schedule:

• April 1 – April 15: $2,000 per week (or the equivalent per day)

• April 16 – April 29: $1,500 per week (or the equivalent per day)

• May 1 – September 30: $1,000 per week (or the equivalent per day)

• October 1 – October 15: $1,500 per week (or the equivalent per day)

• October 16 – November 1: $2,000 per week (or the equivalent per day)
  
  In addition, the pool heater cannot be used when the average daily outside temperature falls below 65 degrees, and your fee will be refunded on a pro-rated basis if the outside temps necessitate turning off the pool heat.
  

Q: Does The Black Stallion have a hot tub?

A:

The Black Stallion has two hot tubs, one at the pool area and the other in the downstairs picnic area (just outside the Lounge and Game Room).  Back-up parts for each of the key components of the pool area hot tub are stored on-site in order to enable this key amenity can be repaired quickly if any of the key component parts fails to perform as expected.

Q: How many guests can stay at The Black Stallion?

A:

The Black Stallion is a unique 24 bedroom event home that comfortably sleeps up to 55 guests.  There are 23 king beds, 5 twin beds and 2 bunk beds in the property. Click here to view floor plans of The Black Stallion.

Q: Can The Black Stallion accommodate a wheelchair?

A:

Yes. The Black Stallion’s door widths are: elevators: 34”, public bathrooms on ground floor of main house: 34”, public bathrooms on ground floor of cabana house (using outside entrance): 35”, all bedrooms: 34”. We recently completed a construction project to widen the bathroom door in the Catalina bedroom to 34”. We also lowered the step leading to the shower of the Catalina bathroom so a wheelchair can easily go over it (with assistance from someone pushing the wheelchair from behind). And since every shower in The Black Stallion already has a small built-in seat, a person with a disability will be able to sit comfortably while taking a shower.

In addition, The Currituck Club now offers beach wheelchairs to make getting to the beach easier for those with limitations. The beach wheelchairs are stationed with the valets at The Currituck Club exclusive southern beach access. As always, the valets are happy to assist.

Q: Is The Black Stallion pet-friendly?

A:

Q: How many guests can you host for a wedding or other special event?

A:

The specified maximum number of event guests for The Black Stallion is 300.  Please contact events@blackstallionobx.com if you are planning to host an event for more than the specified maximum number of event guests.

Q: Does The Black Stallion have enough ice-making capacity to handle a large group?

A:

The Black Stallion has ice-makers in the freezer of the primary catering kitchen, in the bar area of the main floor (outside the primary catering kitchen), and in the bar area on the bottom floor.  In addition, The Black Stallion has an ice-making machine in the catering prep kitchen on the bottom floor, and we generally keep extra bags of ice in the freezer in the catering prep kitchen.  Most catering companies can bring additional ice upon request.  And if necessary, additional ice can be acquired inexpensively at Harris Teeter, which is approximately 0.8 miles from The Black Stallion.

Q: How many tables and chairs are available at The Black Stallion for indoor and outdoor dining?

A:

The dining room on the second level in the main living area at The Black Stallion has 5 oblong and 4 round tables with stone travertine tops and 54 chairs.  The dining room tables located in this area are not movable from the second level. If you have plans to dine in the event room space, you will need to rent tables and chairs from one of the local rental companies, Ocean Atlantic Event Rentals or Metro Rentals. There are also 8 wooden picnic tables and benches for outdoor dining under the deck outside the bar area on the ground floor.

Q: How many people can The Black Stallion accommodate for a formal sit down dinner at an event?

A:

The indoor event room can seat up to 150 guests.  The pool area (tables lined around the pool) can seat up to 150 guests, and you can add tables on the side yard lawn outside of the pool area to accommodate more guest dining.  Alternatively, you can arrange tables on the lawn in the back yard or in the driveway; each of these locations can seat up to 150 guests.  We recommend that you contact Ocean Atlantic Event Rentals, Metro Rentals,  or I DO OBX Chairs to rent tables and chairs and for ideas about a specific layout for your event.

Q: Can The Black Stallion accommodate business meetings? What kind of Audio-Visual Equipment is available?

A:

Yes. The Black Stallion has a number of rooms and spaces that can accommodate business meetings.

• The Event Room: Seats 150. AV and Presentation Equipment: 75” Smart 4K UHD TV with HDMI capability and Apple 4K TV.  Bluetooth enabled Sonos surround sound system.

• The Theater Room: Seats 12 - 20. AV and Presentation Equipment: 75” Smart 4K UHD TV with HDMI capability and Apple 4K TV.  Bluetooth enabled Sonos surround sound system.

• The Main Hall: Seats 55 - 85. AV and Presentation Equipment: 40” LCD SmartTV with HDMI capability and Samsung screen casting.  Bluetooth enabled Sonos sound system.

• The Lounge and Game Room: Seats 30+. AV and Presentation Equipment: 65” LCD Smart TV with HDMI capability and Apple 4K TV and two 40” LCD Smart TVs with HDMI capability.  Bluetooth enabled Sonos sound system.

• The Cabana: Seats 12+. AV and Presentation Equipment: 70” Smart 4K UHD TV with HDMI capability and Apple 4K TV.  Bluetooth enabled Sonos surround sound system.

Q: I am planning my wedding at The Black Stallion and want to hire a DJ. Are there any restrictions on noise?

A:

The Currituck Club community rules allow you outdoor music until 10:00pm.  One of the unique features of The Black Stallion is privacy, as the property has no direct neighbors is surrounded on all sides by trees.  We request that you direct the outdoor music toward the woods and golf course and away from the street, and turn the music volume down after 10:00pm to avoid eliciting noise complaints. After 10:00pm, the party can be continued inside.

Q: What are the dimensions of the event room at The Black Stallion?

A:

The event room at The Black Stallion is 35 feet by 50 feet.  The wall overlooking the back yard is a series of sliding glass doors which can be opened for easy flow into the back yard.  The wall opposite that faces the driveway has three large barn style doors which can also be opened to expand the event area into the driveway.

Q: Can I use a tent in the yard?

A:

Yes!  The Black Stallion can accommodate up to a 30' x 30' tent in the back yard.  The back yard can also accommodate an adjacent 15' x 15' tent for a band.  The side yard (between the event room and the pool area) can accommodate a 20' x 20' tent.

Q: Can the pool at The Black Stallion be covered to create a dance floor?

A:

Yes!  You can rent flooring from Ocean Atlantic Event Rentals to cover the shallow end of the pool, creating a gorgeous setting for you and your guests to dance under the stars.  Keep in mind that there are no equipment rental companies in the Outer Banks that can provide a tent large enough to cover the entire pool area, so you may not be able to use the pool area for your event if there happens to be inclement weather.

Q: Is there a bridge to the platform in the center of the pool?

A:

Yes, we had a wooden bridge custom built for The Black Stallion in order to enable the platform in the center of the pool to be easily accessed during events.  The most frequent uses of the platform are:  1) location for a Sweetheart Table,  2) location for a bride and groom’s first dance, and 3) location for a cake display and/or a cake-cutting ceremony.  Please contact us at events@blackstallionobx.com if you are interested in using the bridge for your event.

Q: How many cars can park at The Black Stallion? Can I park a trailer/U-Haul at The Black Stallion?

A:

The Black Stallion has 24 parking spaces, one for each bedroom. No vehicles are permitted to park in front of residences, or in the cul-de-sac at the base of The Black Stallion’s driveway. Nor is parking permitted (for more than 2 hours at a time) in the Harris Teeter grocery store parking lot without permission from Harris Teeter management. While overflow parking for outside guests attending events at The Black Stallion is generally not permitted in the lot owned by the community, with advance permission from the management of the community, you may be able to move a number of the cars of your house guests staying on the property to these lots the day of your wedding to make room for outside guests and your vendors to park in the driveway at the house. The Currituck Club community does not allow trailers or U-Hauls to be parked in the driveway, other than for short-term drop-offs and pick-ups. Storage is available for a small fee at the Corolla and Carova Parking lot approximately 2.5 miles north of the community. https://corollaandcarovaparking.com/.

Q: What happens if I violate the parking restrictions?

A:

The Currituck Club community reserves the right to tow cars that are parked illegally on the street, or in the cul-de-sac. Local law enforcement may also ticket vehicles parked in the streets illegally. Cameras are in place monitoring the cul-de-sac and street in front of the house. 

Q: Can guests of The Black Stallion utilize The Currituck Club amenities?

A:

Yes, guests of The Black Stallion can enjoy all of the amenities offered by The Currituck Club, including the golf course (discounted greens fees), the fitness center, 3 outdoor fitness stations, 3 community pools, Tiki bar (with coffee) at the main pool located at the community entrance, Door to Shore service, trolley transportation, basketball courts, pickleball, tennis, bocce, volleyball, shuffleboard, cornhole, beach access, beach valet, beach snack bar, beach equipment rentals, and business center.  

Wristbands are required to utilize The Currituck Club amenities. Wristbands should be worn at all times while on community property.

Q: How close is The Currituck Club trolley pick-up point from The Black Stallion?

A:

The closest trolley pick-up point is at the corner of Hunt Club Drive and Herring Gull Court, which is a 3 minute walk from The Black Stallion.  The Currituck Club has also agreed to send the trolley right to the Black Stallion for pickups if you call them at 252-453-4011.  If you do request a pickup, please make sure that your group is ready to board when the trolley arrives. 

The trolley is a convenient way to get to and from the beach, the fitness center, and the golf course. The Currituck Club has wheelchair-accessible trolleys with lifts. When calling for the trolley service, please mention that you will need a vehicle with this capability.

The Currituck Club has introduced a trolley tracker app that you might find helpful.  

Q: Are there shops and restaurants nearby?

A:

The Black Stallion is less than a mile from the Harris Teeter grocery store, and other shops and restaurants.  You can walk, drive, or rent a golf cart from a local vendor.

Q: Are there medical facilities nearby?

A:

The Outer Banks Hospital is 27.6 miles away.  The address is 4800 S Croatan Hwy, Nags Head, NC 27959. For additional information on local medical facilities, please visit area healthcare.

Q: I need to ship items to the house. How can I do that?

A:

UPS and FedEx packages can be delivered directly to The Black Stallion. However, The Black Stallion does not have an on-site staff, so please keep in mind that items shipped directly to the house prior to your arrival may not be secure and will be received by the guests in residence at the time of the delivery. USPS deliveries can be sent via General Delivery to the Corolla Post Office for guest pick-up. For larger items, or to answer any questions you may have about deliveries, it would be best to call KEES Vacations (866-316-1843).

Q: Where is the nearest airport? Where is the closest place to rent a car?

A:

The closest major airport, Norfolk International Airport, is approximately 91 miles away.  Outer Banks Aviation offers charter flights to the Manteo Airpot, approximately 39 miles from The Black Stallion.  Most major rental car companies have cars available at Norfolk International Airport.  The closest car rental company, Enterprise Rental Car, is located in Kill Devil Hills approximately 20 miles away.

Q: Are there local vendors that can fill the kegerators? Do I need to bring CO2?

A:

The kegs for The Black Stallion are cleaned on a weekly basis and supplied with CO2.  You can arrange for the kegs to be filled by Brew Dolly (252-493-6744) or by any other vendor you choose.

Q: What is The Black Stallion cancellation policy?

A:

All guests who have signed a lease are subject to the terms of the lease agreement.  If you have a reservation at The Black Stallion and need to cancel for any reason, please contact KEES as well as events@blackstallionobx.com as soon as possible.  We will make every effort to re-book The Black Stallion to a new guest, but any shortfall in the rental fee for that week will be your responsibility. 

Q: Does The Black Stallion have high chairs and other equipment for very young children?

A:

The Black Stallion currently provides two high chairs.  If you would like to rent cribs or other equipment for very young children during your stay, Just for the Beach, Moneysworth, and Ocean Atlantic Rentals all provide this type of equipment for rent.  The Black Stallion also has a play area on the top floor that is designed specifically for very young children.  You should bring your own favorite toys, however.

Q: Is your facility smoker friendly?

A:

There is ABSOLUTELY no smoking inside the property or on property decks, porches, or stairwells. If guests must smoke outside on the grounds, it must be done outside at least 25 feet away from any structure. Guests are responsible for the proper disposal of smoking materials (i.e. cigarette or cigar butts). Any smoking materials or waste found on the grounds and any lingering smells from smoking activity will be assessed as damages not covered by insurance and charges will apply.

Q: …would we put a deposit down to reserve all the rooms and then have the guests book their individual rooms with you…..?

A:

Hi there! The rental rate of The Black Stallion is for property only, and as a private vacation rental, the property is only rented out to one individual. If you would like to share costs with your guests, you would decide what to charge the guests you invite to stay at the property with you, collect the money, and assign the rooms. There are some online services and apps for group funding that you can use to allow you to keep track of payments, etc. To assist you in assigning rooms to your guests, all of the bedrooms have both names and number. The Black Stallion website has floor plans in the "Gallery" section that will assist you in making plans.
