Yes, visitors may access one of the conveniently located beach off-road vehicle ramps throughout Hatteras Island, but you will need to get a permit to do so. If you need to get a permit, visit Cape Hatteras National Seashore Orv Permit, Cape Hatteras National Seashore - Recreation.gov, or call 1-877-444-6777.

Also, make sure you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle and deflate the tires before getting on the beach. A tire pressure of less than 20 psi is recommended for most vehicles. The softer the sand, the lower the pressure needed. Re-inflate tires to normal pressure as soon as possible after you return to paved roads. If you get stuck and cannot get your vehicle out, your best bet is to call a commercial towing service.

Waves, in the Tri Villages, has miles of uncrowded beaches giving you ample space to catch some sun.
