How Far is It and How to Get There?

From points North: the closest international airport is in Norfolk, VA (ORF). After landing in Norfolk, you will then head south on NC-168 and US-158 where you will drive over the Wright Brothers Memorial Bridge. When you get to the road signs pointing you to NC12 North, you will stay straight and proceed through the towns of Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head. Continue on S. Croatan Hwy through Nags Head, passing plenty of shops and restaurants along the way. You will then come to a stop light where you will see the Pirate's Cove Marina sign. Take a right.

From the west: Follow US-64, passing the intersection for Manteo and Wanchese. Continue on the Washington Baum Bridge until you come to the light for Pirate's Cove Marina.

Do We Need to Have a Fishing License to Fish Off the Docks at Pirate's Cove?

Yes! Fishing licenses are required for anyone over the age of 16 years old. You can obtain a fishing license at most bait and tackle shops, Walmart, and even online.

Where Can I Take My Pet on the Beach?

All of the towns on the Outer Banks have their own pet regulations.

Manteo: Any animal off the premises of the custodian shall be restrained by a leash, cord, or chain not exceeding six feet in length, held by a person who is physically able to control the animal unless such animal is restrained by voice control.

Nags Head: Dogs are permitted on the beach year-round as long as they are restrained by a leash no longer than 10 feet. Although they are permitted all year, please remember that if the sand is too hot for your feet, it's definitely too hot for your dog's feet!

Kill Devil Hills: Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, dogs are not allowed on the beaches in Kill Devil Hills from the hours of 9am until 6pm, unless the dog is assisting an individual or is a service animal. During the off-season, dogs are allowed on the beach but must always remain on a leash.

Kitty Hawk: You and your pooch can spend time together on Kitty Hawk beaches year-round, but there are time restrictions! From the Friday before Memorial Day to the day after Labor Day between the hours of 10 am and 6 pm, all dogs must be on a leash no longer than six feet. When in public areas, dogs should be on leashes retractable to 12 feet or less.

Corolla: In Corolla, dogs are allowed on the beaches year-round, so they can roll and play in the sand to their heart's content. While there is no leash-length requirement in Corolla, dogs must be leashed at all times year-round.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore: Dogs are allowed on the beach year-round if they are restrained on a 6 ft. leash. Pets are prohibited on designated swimming beaches. Guide dogs for the visually impaired are permitted to remain with their owners at all times.

We encourage you to also be courteous and respect the safety and property of other dogs and humans by picking up after your pet - pet waste is not to be buried in the sand or put in the ocean. Also, we ask that you maintain control of your pet at all times.

How Far Away is the Beach?

While there is water surrounding you wherever you stay in Pirate's Cove marina, the closest ocean beach access is Jennette's Pier which is 3.2 miles from Pirate's Cove Resort. Nags Head is not far from Pirate's Cove, and they have plenty of public beach access.

What Amenities do Pirate's Cove Rentals Have to Offer?

Pirate's Cove is a quick drive to both Downtown historic Manteo and Nags Head. Both towns allow you to enjoy local shops, restaurants, and attractions.
