The custom of making New Year`s resolutions has been around for thousands of years, but it hasn`t always looked the way it does today. The ancient Babylonians are said to have been the first people to make New Year`s resolutions, some 4,000 years ago. They made promises to the gods to pay their debts and return any objects they had borrowed. These promises could be considered the forerunners of our New Year`s resolutions. If the Babylonians kept to their word, their (pagan) gods would bestow favor on them for the coming year. If not, they would fall out of the gods` favor—a place no one wanted to be.
No matter what your resolution may be for the upcoming year (eating better, exercising more, taking better care of yourself), you can jump right into it on the Outer Banks. Here are a few ideas:
OBX Hot Yoga offers both yoga classes as well as massage - the perfect balance of physical and mental wellness.
Studies have shown that the beach offers a multitude of health benefits.
If the weather isn`t cooperating for exercise - head inside the aquarium. The aquarium is a great place to unwind AND get those steps in.
The monument at The Wright Brother`s Memorial is a great place to walk with amazing views as your reward!
Enjoy Mother Nature for some peace and quiet... and exercise on one of these trails.
Many of the local eateries offer healthy fresh seafood that can compliment a New Year`s resolution. Here are some venues that cater to eating well.
Nags Head
The Outer Bank`s newest health-oriented cafe and juice bar. Serving breakfast and lunch daily, their goal is to help make it easy for you to meet your fitness goals by providing healthy and delicious meals. They are nutrition-oriented and health-focused and want to help you eat better, increase energy and reduce stress.
Manteo
Their menus are approachable and casual, and they are proud to say that
everything on their menu is made in-house. They locally source as many
ingredients as possible in an effort to support the community as well as
offer the freshest food possible to our diners.
